When I first got into hockey, I felt that ‘fate’ pull with the New York Rangers…and had no idea why. All I knew was that it was happening.

Fast forward 2 years after that first feeling and I’m all of a sudden a hockey writer. Darius Kasparaitis (NYR) offered my first interview and basically skyrocketed my career.

There were factors that I realize now that I did not equate into the picture when I first felt ‘fate’ knocking on my door…like who was on the ice versus the New York Rangers that night…the New Jersey Devils.

The ironic twist was that ‘fate’ wasn’t about the love between me and some hockey player. It was about me and the fate of my life…my future love as a hockey writer and how the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils would become a major part of my life.

The New York Rangers launched my career and I wound up with the New Jersey Devils.

Both teams played their roles in creating my path in life. It’s a magical journey that’s hard to explain to others beyond…this is my path in life. This was the life that was fated to me.

Sure, I’ve had hockey players say to me that ‘fate’ brought us together…but how it did so isn’t about love…it’s about a shared journey we’re both on at that exact moment. That’s what makes it so magical.

We learn something greater on these prophetic journeys. Usually it’s a lesson on life…we just have to go with the flow and see what happens. You have to be open to it…and enjoy the ride. What we think is ‘fate’ is not always fate. What is fate is usually the part we overlooked and realize later what it truly was all about.
