The New York Rangers announced tonight that Derek Boogaard, one of the most imposing and terrifying tough guys in the National Hockey League, was found dead in his Minnesota apartment earlier this evening. He was only 28 years old. It is a very great tragedy that the hockey community must mourn the loss of another true beauty less than a year after the untimely death of Bob Probert last summer. Although Boogaard was known as an intimidating force on the ice, he was regarded as one of the genuinely nicest guys off the ice by fans and teammates alike. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends in this difficult and trying time. Rest in peace, Derek! Give ‘em Hell up there, big guy!
