Crowd Sniffing 101: How about you try logging out of Twitter and making a @#$%ing deal?

If there is one thing more disgusting than the fact that the League consists of a bunch of greedy douche bags that are forcing us into another lockout just 8 short years after the last NHL work stoppage, then it has to be the shameless pandering that both the League and the Players are doing to get the fans on their “side.” Both sides seem to be trying to manipulate us into supporting them through this ordeal by releasing public statements to the media or via their Twitter accounts. Why exactly? And why, for the love of god, do you, the fans, immediately revert to online dick sucking mode the instant a player attempts to bamboozle you in this way? It’s disgraceful.

I know the media likes to sensationalize the power the fans have in this conflict, but if you have any sort of intelligence, you’d realize that we don’t actually have any. Yes, we *could* make a difference, but that would involve severing our support of the NHL once play resumes, you know, to teach them a lesson and such. We all know that isn’t going to happen, as the people who are passionately opposed to this Lockout (i.e. every red blooded fan in existence) are the same people who cannot live without the game. Of course, I do expect a Lockout will completely destroy the progress that has been made to grow the fan bases in places like Phoenix over the last couple of years, however, so losing the newbies is something the League should actually be quite worried about.

The way I see it, we mean very little to both sides in this struggle. To the League, we are a paycheck. To the Players, we are an ego booster. Yes, without us, they would be fucked, but they don’t seem to sincerely grasp this concept. Anyway, my point is, if you do want to exert your “power” as a fan, then show both sides that you are taking the Swiss approach, and staying neutral. Your indifference may actually scare them. Oh, and the next time a player or League official attempts to make a play for your sympathy via their Twitter account, try not sucking their dick, for starters, then tell them to log the fuck out, and make a deal already! September 15th will be here before we know it!

Glacial indifference is actually the sanest tactic for dealing with the lockout that I have encountered so far. My scars from the last one are still tender, and I have no idea what I will do with myself this fall. It seems instinctive to support the players in this, but the Psycho Hockey Lady is right; they’re certainly not negotiating with OUR interests in mind. Must. Feign. Indifference.
